Henna Night Programme: Hour-by-Hour Flow and Preparation Checklist

The traditional flow of a henna night, music choices and the list of items to prepare.

The henna night is thought of as the emotional farewell before the bride leaves her father's house. Although customs vary by region there is a general flow, and knowing it eases both the families and the planner.

Typical flow (about four hours)

  1. 19:30 – Guest reception, refreshments and photo corner
  2. 20:15 – The bride enters in her bindallı and is led to the stage to folk songs
  3. 20:45 – Preparing the henna, veiling and the henna ritual
  4. 21:30 – Dinner service
  5. 22:30 – Dance tunes, halay and live music
  6. 23:30 – Cake cutting and farewell

Preparation checklist

  • Henna tray, candles, henna and henna leaves
  • Bindallı or kaftan; hairdresser appointment
  • A list of folk songs and dance tunes (by the regions of both families)
  • Seating plan and cushioned stage for the bride
  • Deciding who will apply the henna
  • Checking the sound system and electrical capacity

Choosing the music

A folk-song group strengthens the traditional flow; live music or a DJ makes dance tunes livelier. Many couples choose folk songs in the first half and mixed live music in the second. Adjusting the volume to the guests' ages matters for the comfort of older guests.

At the same venue as the wedding

Holding the henna night and wedding at the same venue lowers transport and set-up costs. The henna-night décor can be set in a different palette; in that case we apply a discount to the décor fee.

Budget and timing

A traditional henna night starts at around 165,000 TRY for 120 guests and rises to about 295,000 TRY with a live orchestra, lit stage and photo-video set. Keeping the programme short matters, especially for elderly guests and children: a flow that does not exceed four hours protects the energy of both family and musicians.

Common mistakes

  • Limiting the henna moment to one person: giving relatives a chance to speak enriches the moment.
  • Keeping the lights too dim: the stage area needs separate lighting for photographs.
  • Serving dinner late: dinner should be finished before the dance tunes begin.

The bride's day: timing

The henna day is busy for the bride: hairdresser and make-up appointments, a last fitting of the bindallı and family visits. We recommend finishing preparations at least three hours before the night starts, with a light meal and a quiet break for the bride. Our planner stays reachable as the family's liaison throughout the day.

Guests often arrive late to henna nights; writing the start time 30 minutes earlier on the invitation and placing the welcome refreshments in that window protects the flow.
